Starr Sackstein is an award-winning educator, author, and speaker who champions student-led assessment, grading reform, and learner-centered classrooms. A veteran high school English and journalism teacher and former school district curriculum leader, she now serves as COO of Mastery Portfolio, where she helps educators design more meaningful, evidence-based assessment systems. Starr's work centers on shifting classrooms from compliance to agency, empowering students to take ownership of their learning while giving teachers practical, innovative strategies. Additionally, Starr is the MA State Coordinator for Educators Rising, a program that supports the development of a grow-your-own educator pipeline. Through her writing, keynotes, and professional learning, she supports educators in creating equitable, growth-focused experiences that deepen engagement and achievement.
