MSLA Session
Session 5, Thursday, 3:00-3:50am, Future Ready Librarians Court
Media literacy is an essential skill in today’s fast-paced digital world, empowering students to critically evaluate information, recognize bias, and engage responsibly with the digital content they encounter. Advances in generative AI make this more difficult as students are bombarded with information, misinformation and disinformation from dubious sources. This session offers educators a comprehensive introduction to media literacy, providing clear definitions, practical strategies, and actionable tools for classroom integration.
Through real-world examples and approachable techniques, educators will explore how digital media, often influenced by artificial intelligence, shapes information consumption and behavior—and discover ways to guide students in navigating these complexities. From guiding students to independently evaluate and question media to cultivating a future-focused teaching mindset, this session helps teachers adapt instructional practices to ensure students keep pace with the future of education.
Speaker: Christopher Heintz

Session 7, Thursday, 1:15pm-2:05am, Future Ready Librarians Court
The high school library is already a valuable hub of resources, but the challenge now is making it the strategic center of instruction. Attendees will hear the inspiring story of a librarian who made the "Full Circle" pivot—returning to the stacks with a passion reignited after years as an instructional technology coach. This journey revealed a critical lesson: the non-evaluative approach of coaching is the key to elevating the library from a resource provider to an essential instructional partner. Learn how to leverage the library space to initiate relationship-driven resource support, gaining a practical "Coaching Mindset Toolkit" for building teacher trust, co-designing high-impact projects, and becoming the critical instructional leader on campus.
