Learning Tour Overview

Lynnfield Public Schools launched Makerspaces with two locations in the fall of 2015. The success of these pilot spaces has led the district to expand the Makerspaces to all four schools this school year. Each space is housed in the school’s Media Center and feature a wide range of “stations,” as well as constantly changing “maker challenge” activities for students. Registrants will visit our two elementary Makerspaces at Huckleberry Hill School (12:45pm– 1:45pm) and Summer Street School (2:00pm-3:00pm). The tour will be hosted by Lynnfield’s Media Specialists and Digital Learning Coaches from both the elementary and secondary levels who will share successes and challenges of the Makerspace initiative. The goal of the tour is to provide participants with the opportunity to see how Lynnfield has adapted two media centers to incorporate their own spin on a makerspace, as well as see students interacting with the different activities/materials.

About the host school/district:

Lynnfield Public Schools serves approximately 2200 students in four schools in the North Shore area of MA. Innovation is encouraged by school and district leadership, which has led to powerful learning experiences that incorporate technology at all levels. The adoption of Makerspaces is fueling student creativity and design thinking in our media centers and classrooms.
