Google Tools to Improve Your Workflow: Google Drive and Gmail

Start the new year off with learning how to improve your workflow with Google Tools! In this four week online course, we will explore how to maximize the power of Google Drive and Gmail to improve your workflow. We’ll learn the basics of these tools as well as lots of tips and tricks that will keep you more organized and efficient.

Prerequisites
Graduate Credit   At the first class, participants may choose to register for 1 graduate credit through Worcester State University for an additional fee of $125. All participants, including those who do not opt for graduate credit, will receive a certificate documenting the number of course hours attended.

Margaret Peixoto

Margaret Peixoto taught high school math for six years at Bishop Feehan High School. She is currently the Learning Commons Director at BFHS and teaches AP Seminar and online SAT Prep. Margaret earned her undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Villanova University and her Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Providence College.  She holds her Innovative Educator Certificate, Leading Edge Certification for Online and Blended Learning and loves learning new things to improve her work in the classroom.  She provides professional development for Bishop Feehan High School, MassCUE and Framingham State University.  Margaret is enthusiastic about helping teachers reflect on their teaching and integrate technology into their classrooms.

 

 

 

Weekly Outline:

This course will follow this general outline but will be tailored to the needs of the participants. A survey at the beginning of the course will ask participants to share their current tech usage and comfort level as well as their tech needs so that the instructor can create offer modules that best fit those needs. 

Online Session 1: Google Drive 

Learn the basics of Google Drive including the difference between Drive File Stream, My Drive, Shared Drives and Priority. Learn how to organize your files as well as tricks for finding files faster. 

Online Session 2: More Google Drive 

Learn how to start, stop, limit and change share settings on Google Drive files and folders. Learn how to save time and prevent confusion by working collaboratively on shared documents.  

Online Session 3: Gmail 

Learn the basics of Gmail, including signature, vacation responder, undo send, and smart reply. Learn how to attach files from Google Drive and create hyperlinks in the body of your email.  

Online Session 4: More Gmail 

Learn simple tricks for improving your workflow, including nudges, schedule send, snooze, side panel calendar, and side panel tasks. 

Project Description:  

Educators wishing to receive one credit from WSU will create a screencast tutorial demonstrating their understanding and use of the skills and strategies learned OR create a lesson plan in which they teach students the workflow skills from one of the tools.
