Google Tools to Assess Learning & Provide Feedback – Elementary

In this session, participants will explore ways to assess student learning and provide feedback to students using Google Forms, Docs, Slides and Classroom.

Margaret Peixoto

Margaret Peixoto taught high school math for six years at Bishop Feehan High School. She is currently the Learning Commons Director at BFHS and teaches AP Seminar and online SAT Prep. Margaret earned her undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Villanova University and her Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Providence College.  She holds her Innovative Educator Certificate, Leading Edge Certification for Online and Blended Learning and loves learning new things to improve her work in the classroom.  She provides professional development and technology integration training for Bishop Feehan High School, MassCUE and Framingham State University.  Margaret is enthusiastic about helping teachers reflect on their teaching and integrate technology into their classrooms.



  • Create a list of at least three comments used when giving students feedback. Add the Bitmoji Chrome extension to Google Chrome. 
  • Use features of Google forms to create assessments with instant feedback and targeted resources for struggling learners 
  • Learn how to create editing shortcuts in Google Docs and Slides 
  • Explore the comment bank feature in Google Classroom 
  • Create a custom avatar in Bitmoji for a fun way to provide student feedback

Project Description:

Curate student feedback elements in Google Docs or Google Classroom to be used throughout the school year


This course supports the following Massachusetts Digital Literacy and Computer Science standards:  


Operate a variety of digital tools (e.g., open/close, find, save/print, navigate, use input/output devices).


Collaboratively use digital tools and media resources to communicate key ideas and details in a way that informs, persuades, and/or entertains.


Use a variety of digital tools to exchange information and feedback with teachers.


Use a variety of digital tools to present information to others.


Collaborate through online digital tools under teacher supervision.


Identify and discuss the technology proficiencies needed in the classroom and the workplace, and how to meet the needs.


Cultivate a positive web presence (e.g., digital resume, portfolio, social media).


Identify ways to use technology to support lifelong learning.


Communicate and publish key ideas and details to a variety of audiences using digital tools and media-rich resources.


Collaborate on a substantial project with outside experts or others through online digital tools (e.g., science fair project, community service project, capstone project).
