Innovative Practices in a Collaborative Teaching Environment

Learning Tour Overview

Participants will observe and tour students working on projects in a collaborative learning environment. Student projects are made up of a collaboration between the classroom teacher, art teacher, and the new innovation lab teacher. This tour will focus on key projects that integrate core content areas with the arts using technology and digital learning tools, such as iPad apps, robotics, early coding skills, and other innovative technology. After viewing student demonstrations, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with these new innovations and take part in a round table question and answer. 

 Participants will gain ideas and resources on how to collaborate and integrate the arts and innovative practices across grade levels using Project Based Learning (PBL), technology, and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills. 

 Agenda for the tour: 

– Observe and participate in K-2 interdisciplinary projects. 

– Tour key learning environments, classroom, visual art room, innovation lab. 

– Round table discussion with leading collaborative educators.

About

Catie Nasser has been a visual arts educator in public and private settings for over 15 years.  She is passionate about giving her students opportunities to learn that stress innovation, STEAM, and interdisciplinary learning. 

Amanda Libby has been a classroom teacher for the past 11 years.  Her K-3 teaching experiences and the collaboration with amazing educators across those grades have helped shape her into the innovative, reflective educator she is today.  Amanda strives to incorporate movement, play, and technology into her daily lessons.  She believes students’ interests and curiosity should help lead the learning and that they, too, can be teachers. 

Barbara Deeley has been a classroom teacher in the Middleton Public Schools for 31 years. In the 2019/20 school year, Barbara takes on a new role as the Innovation Specialist, teaching K-6 in her new space, The Collaboratory. Barbara´s goal is to empower learners by creating experiences that synthesize Design Thinking and Project Based Learning.
