Claiming What We Imagine
How can we act as agents of positive change and transform learning and leadership in schools?

The Challenge

Stephanie Pace Marshall, at the end of her book The Power to Transform, says: "Courage is the capacity to claim what we imagine [cwwi]). If you are carrying this new story in your heart, now is the time to step forward. There is a place in the world for your unique voice, and it carries a message that must be heard. Start anywhere, but begin the conversation, and tell the new story that brings learning and schooling to life.”

The Conversation

Our face to face (f2f) and online conversation will begin with a mini-presentation on the need for systemic transformation in education to prepare students for challenges and opportunities today. Then we will use the National School Reform Faculty’s Future Protocol to think about a specific example of school change, the Falmouth Kids Global Climate Change Institute (http://www.falmouth.k12.ma.us/globalclimate/index.html). Participants in the conversation will be invited to consider the topic and the example from the perspectives of leadership, learning and technology.

Before, during and after our f2f conversation, participants can post comments at our conversation wiki, claimingwhatweimagine.wikispaces.com.

On the day of our f2f meeting we will broadcast the conversation using Ustream.tv and invite participation through the Ustream.tv chat, Skype and Twitter.
