Massachusetts Computer Using Educators - MassCUE

November and Schrock to be Honored with 2007 Making It Happen Awards

MassCUE is honored and pleased to present two Making It Happen Awards at the 2007 MassCUE State Technology Conference. This year's conference celebrates our 25th anniversary, and we wanted to confer this honor to two of the most prominent educators from Massachusetts: Alan November and  Kathy Schrock.

Alan November is recognized internationally as a leader in education technology. He began his career as an oceanography teacher and dorm counselor at an island reform school for boys in Boston Harbor. He has delivered keynote presentations and workshops in all fifty states, in every province in Canada, and throughout the UK, Europe and Asia. Alan was named one of the nation’s fifteen most influential thinkers of the decade by Classroom Computer Learning Magazine and one of eight educators to provide leadership into the future by the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse. He is most proud of being selected as one of the original five national Christa McAuliffe Educators.

Kathy Schrock is the Administrator for Technology for the Nauset Public Schools on Cape Cod. A large part of her job is involved with infusing technology throughout the curriculum in all areas and at all grade levels. Previously a library media specialist, she is very interested in search strategies, evaluation of Internet information, copyright issues, emerging technologies and gadgets, and the use of technology as a tool to support instruction. Kathy recently served as a member of the ISTE Board of Directors from 2004-2006. Kathy has been an avid user of the Internet since November of 1993, and continues to investigate daily and add links to new sources which will be helpful for educators. She has written numerous articles on technology and education, has authored four books, and is the editor of a series of books for Linworth Publishing.

Making it Happen is a nationally recognized awards program for educators in the field of educational technology integration in K-12 schools. The program identifies and rewards educational technology leaders around the world for their commitment and innovation. Since its inception, the program has grown into an internationally recognized awards program highlighting the dramatic role various educators, from the Secretary of Education to the classroom teacher, play in the learning process using high quality technology in the classroom. Since the program's inception in 1995, more than 260 jackets have been awarded to outstanding educational leaders! Making It Happen is sponsored by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).

As MassCUE celebrates its 25th anniversary, we wish to thank Alan and Kathy for all of their efforts and accomplishments on behalf of education, particularly their use of technology to promote engaged, energetic teaching and learning.
