How
to Connect to the MECnet Internet Service in the Sturbridge Host
Hotel
To
access the MECnet Internet service in the Sturbridge Host Hotel
you must first have an Ethernet card and network cable. (Wireless
access will not be available in the presentation rooms.)
We
request that all presenters bring their own 15-20 ft network cables
(MECnet will have a limited supply of cable on hand.)
First,
locate your Internet connection (which is either a wall jack or
an already provided cable)
Plug
your network cable into your Ethernet card.
How
to Configure your PC
NOTE:
By default PCs are set to DHCP (dynamic server assigned IP addressing).
However, you may need to edit your configuration if you do not have
the default settings.
On
your desktop you will see an icon called either “Network Neighborhood”
or “My Network Places.” Right click this icon and select preferences.
From
this point, depending on the version of Windows you are running
, select your network card's TCP/IP stack. Highlight this entry
and click properties.
In
most cases you will want the option “obtain IP address” and “obtain
DNS servers” options checked. This will allow our MECnet servers
to assign all the necessary settings.
Windows
users should also ensure that there are no proxy settings on their
computers. You can find this setting by clicking on “tools” in your
browser. Then click “Internet Options,” then “connections,” then
“LAN settings.” Ensure that nothing is selected in this view.
How
to Configure your MAC OSX
Click
the “system preferences” icon on the menu bar. Then click “network,”
then “tcp/ip.” Ensure that the “configure” option reads: “Using
DHCP.” Also ensure that PPPoE, Proxy and Appletalk have NOTHING
selected.
MECnet
staff will be available throughout the day; they are identifiable
by their black MECnet shirts.
